Short summary
This study explored how ammonia reacts with secondary organic aerosols over northern China using model simulations constrained by observational data. The reaction had little effect on overall fine particle pollution but  may provide an additional source of nitrogen-containing organic particles, improving understanding of atmospheric pollution formation and chemical processes in air quality models.
