Short summary
Our work presents a previously undocumented mechanism for stratosphere-troposphere exchange, which is triggered by the interaction of typhoons with the underlying orography. This interaction induces the rapid and efficient transport of emissions from the boundary layer to the tropical tropopause and stratosphere. Our study has significant implications for the development of climate models in terms of parameterization schemes and for our understanding of pollution transport in tropical regions.
