Short summary
We studied fine particle acidity over one year in northwest China. Average pH was 3.8, highest in winter, lowest in summer. Pollution made particles less acidic. Temperature drove seasonal changes; ammonia was key in autumn and winter, dust calcium in spring, and humidity in summer. Humidity had a non-linear effect around 60–85% relative humidity. Our results enhance the understanding of the contributions of various factors to aerosol pH.
