Short summary

This research was conducted to quantify the impact of different prior global biosphere models on the estimate of terrestrial CO₂ fluxes when assimilating Orbiting Carbon Observatory-2 (OCO-2) satellite observations. To determine the prior model impact, we apply observing system simulation experiments (OSSEs). Even with the substantial spatiotemporal coverage of OCO-2 data, residual differences in posterior CO₂ flux estimates remain due to the choice of prior flux mean and uncertainties.
