Furthermore, how do the authors propose to propagate the information? Increasing the scale length of the background error may propagate the information but may misrepresent the error correlation.

L964-968: This sentence does not make sense, i.e. the underestimation assimilating the, v1.0 does not lead to an overestimation assimilating v2.0. Please rephrase.
