Short summary
The Atlantic overturning circulation carries heat northward and may weaken with climate change. We show that this can redistribute natural aerosols, especially Saharan dust, altering clouds and producing strong regional effects over the North Atlantic. Globally, cloud changes largely cancel out, leaving a small warming effect, whereas increased sea ice, snow, and dust produce an overall cooling.
