Short summary
Benzo[a]pyrene (BaP) is a toxic compound emitted from various anthropogenic sources. This study is the first attempt to evaluate all major input and output components of BaP balance in the land-use zones of the eastern district of Moscow. Based on measurements of BaP atmospheric fallout and reserves in the soils, the critical loads of BaP were calculated for different values of degradation intensity. Ecologically safe BaP levels in the soils will only be reached after many decades or centuries.
