The Chemistry and Aerosol Mediterranean Experiment (ChArMEx) special issue will be simultaneously presented in the ACP and AMT journals. It aims at gathering experimental and modelling contributions to the field of atmospheric chemistry in the Mediterranean region and its impacts on regional air quality and climate, both in the recent past, present and future decades. It addresses natural and anthropogenic emissions of tropospheric reactive species, source apportionment, chemical transformations, transport processes, atmospheric deposition, aerosol optical properties and interactions with radiation, water vapour and clouds, variability and trends, and future conditions following climate change and increasing anthropogenic pressure.
